NEW EUROPEAN RECORD EKIDEN
The European record at the Ekiden is now held by a Belgian ensemble. The Runners' lab Athletics Team of Isaac Kimeli, among others, dived more than 30 seconds (2h02'37") under the former record. The success in the relay marathon was designed, among other things, at the drawing board in Tongeren. "The course here has few altimeters", says home and final runner Dieter Kersten.
The Belgian Runners' lab Athletics Team has significantly adjusted the European record on the Ekiden, the relay marathon, in Tongeren.
The new top time is 2h02'37". Thomas De Bock, Simon Debognies, Tim Van de Velde, Isaac Kimeli, Dorian Boulvin and Dieter Kersten went more than 30 seconds under the 28-year-old European record. That record had been held since 1994 by a Dutch six, which clocked 2h03'12".
SQM Time took care of the timekeeping and provided an update of all teams every 2.5 km. See detailed results here!
